Episode 39 – Life & Work with Chanse “King” Sylvie – The OneMindSet Foundation

Where does your story begin?

I am from Shreveport, Louisiana a place that cultivated the motivation to seek more in my life because I was consistently surrounded by despair.

In pursuit of this life, I came across a life I could have never imagined. A life that I created through hard work day in and day out;  I graduated high school in three years a National Honor Society member, with over 30+ division offers, ranked as top 300 athletes across the nation, an Army All American, 2x State Champion, All City Athlete,  and All State athlete.

Upon graduating from high school, I began college at The University of Oklahoma where I won five Big 12 Championships in a row. I played in three college football playoffs games while also winning the Cotton Bowl versus the Florida Gators 🐊, and the Sugar Bowl versus Auburn.

While at OU I was  awarded:

  • Robert D. Lemon Social Justice Award – 2021
  • Superior Service Award- Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. – 2020
  •  Allstate Good Works Team Member – 2020
  • OU Athletics Prentice Gautt Award – 2020 Academic All-Big 12 -First Team – 2017, 2020
  •  Athletics Council Service Award – 2018-19
  • Student Athlete Scholarship Recipient National Honor Society.

I  graduated college in two years obtaining a Bachelor of Arts of Political Science with a Concentration in African American Studies as well as a Bachelor of Arts, Criminology. I’ve also completed Master Course work in Global Affairs, Criminology , and MBA.

During my time at OU, I  joined Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, interned at Oklahoma State Capital, as well as lead a community outreach program with The University of Oklahoma- where we made a police reform. This led to me speaking with Mayors , Police Chiefs and State Representatives.

From this The OneMindSet Foundation was created- the fastest growing non-profit organization in the state of Louisiana.  I currently spearhead change for under resource communities. Our motto is “Uplift as climb. One child at a time, and in due time our community will climb.” – The OneMindSet Motto

What challenges have you faced along the way?

The death of my aunt, best friend, cousin, and teammate. As well as overcoming a ruptured Achilles and ankle. This ultimately led to me finding my place in the world.

What does your work entail?

In order to lead you have to give someone a reason to follow. This is where I excel- I recognize that breakthroughs happen because of two things; either enough stress causes individuals to snap or someone comes along and shows you that you can be more.

I provide, uplift, and motivate individuals to show them that they can be more than they ever imagined. This is done by helping  expand one’s mind to the endless possibilities there are.

A strengths of mine is that I understand my weaknesses and work on them consistently. My greatest strength of them all is “OneMindSet” which is perseverance through hard times.
